We sing as a service to our community for those needing compassion and comfort at times of
death, birth, the thresholds of life.
We honor and build on the ancient tradition of singing at the bedsides of people who are struggling,
some with living, some with dying.
The Olympia Threshold Singers bring soft, gentle, a capella, peaceful singing to those
who would like musical comfort for relaxation during a time of need.
The human voice is a gracious instrument for compassion and comfort,
and Threshold Singers share the sacred gifts of healing voices blended in song.
Where we sing? - in homes, care facilities, hospitals in the local area.
Who can request Threshold singing? - individuals, family members, or facility staff.
How we sing? - Depending on the situation, usually a small group of three or four singers gather around the bed of someone in need, singing softly for about 20 minutes. We sing a capella (without instruments), always mindful of the condition and wishes of the person for whom we sing.
What we sing? - a repertoire of soothing, often lullaby-like short songs, many of which were written specifically for Threshold Choirs. Our intention is to create a blanket of comfort and peaceful compassion
through our songs and our loving presence.
Cost? - None. There is no charge for our singing service.
