Tatiana Perez

  “Angels”

Collage

Expressing grief through this medium was like entering a tunnel of memories of events that shaped me. The more painful was our hardship of the last years of their lives. It is black and white photos of my dead parents and sister, my godmother, my mother-in-law, my uncles and aunties, a street in Paris where we lived when I was a child, the cathedral in my home town Merida and a watercolor and envelope because from distance at the time we wrote each other letters.

An Angel taking their souls away in the ladder to the universe. My photo is also there as I witness my body changes with time passing by. I left them physically too early as they did to me but the love was strong and my gratitude still present for their strength, faith, principles, generosity and adventurous spirit.

My parents loved travelling and studying abroad. My mother received her Phd in linguistics and phonetics in Paris at la Sorbonne where she taught French civilization and language, and my Father had a masters degree in History. I was blessed to have them. They loved music, literature and nature. My mother had the voice of an angel and she played 4 instruments all by ear.

My God mother had 4 or 5 Phd degrees, a former nun, she became a math teacher in college and an advocate of saints in the Vatican.

The other half in Europe and part of my childhood in Merida, Venezuela. I am still searching for a meaning of it all and I am grateful to God for all the blessings in my life.
