“Life Love Loss”
Poetry
This year’s theme of “Being Edgy: Perspectives on Death, Dying, Loss and
Living” is reflected in Stephanie Larkin’s poems,
which were inspired by her lived experiences.
“A Ghost Walking Backwards” and a haiku were written
as her beloved husband battled brain cancer and she struggled with anticipatory grief.
“Haunted” and “Invisible” reflect the confusion and anger many widows experience during their grief journey, while
“Metamorphosis” expresses defiant determination to find a
place in a world that can be dismissive of those who are no longer
one-half of a couple. “Final Bow” captures the shifting sands of dementia.
“Grief Breathes” will
strike a chord with anyone who has dealt with profound grief.
Finally, “Hope” reminds us to continue to nurture the seed of possibility that
remains even after life-altering loss.
Stephanie also did an Author Reading from her book 'Grief Country'
during our Arts Walk event. You can purchase her book here.
